Native American Rock Art
North Eastern Utah has some of the best concentrations of Native American rock art in the western U.S. McConkie Ranch located 30 minutes from Vernal is a top pick for seeing well preserved petroglyphs and pictographs from the Fremont culture. There are many areas to view excellent rock art panels. Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Reservoir is a short 45-minute drive north of Vernal, UT. It's an excellent area for hiking, viewing wildlife, and camping. While in the Flaming Gorge area, take a tour of the dam. This is a highlight for everyone on your trip.
Mountain bikers love Vernal! McCoy Flats is the most popular trailhead, with a variety of trails perfect for all levels of riders. The guys at the local bike shop, Altitude Cycle, can give you all the knowledge you need to ride in the area.
Utah State Parks
Camping, fishing, boating are all available at two beautiful state parks located 10 to 15 minutes north of downtown Vernal. Steinaker State Park has beautiful sandy beaches, great camping close to the water excellent boating and fishing opportunities. Red Fleet State Park just a little further north on highway 191 also offers the same experiences plus excellent stand up paddle boarding on the lakes wake less boat zone. Red Fleet State Park is often referred to as a miniature Lake Powell with its dramatic scenery.
UTAH FIELD HOUSE & NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
The Utah Field House and Natural History Museum, located on Main Street, is fun for the whole family. The museum has a strong focus on dinosaurs, with some well designed displays that provide information about the area. The field house is the Vernal Information Center an excellent stop to get free information about visiting the area.
